What to do in Prague: Rich in history and the arts, Prague is a European epicenter for beautiful architecture and a city of the arts. The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, is without question the most attractive tourist destination in the country. The city of a hundred spires on the River Vltava is known to people from the whole world and is regularly voted among the ten most beautiful cities in the world. Prague is one of the main cultural centers of Europe, displaying a permanent showcase for outstanding performing artists and symphony orchestras at the city’s classical venues. The city also houses many enlightening institutions such as museums, galleries and theatres. Prague hosts a calendar of events throughout the whole year. Czech breweries produce some of the world’s finest beers. Historical Prague is on UNESCO protected list since 1992 and is on the list of top of beauty places in the world you must visit. Prague is a short distance to many outdoor recreational destinations from mountain biking in the Krkonose Mountains to river rafting down the Vltava, or enjoying a beautiful hike in the ‘Czech Paradise', Prague is a short distance from it all.

Peak season generally runs from April to October and many visitors can be also expected during New Year time. Almost one-half of the national income from tourism is spent in Prague. The city offers approximately 73,000 beds in accommodation facilities, most of which were built after 1990 capable of satisfying all categories of visitors. Prague’s economic wealth is dominated by the tourism sector and whilst it accommodates to the estimated 3 million tourists a year, it still has managed to maintain its true cultural magnificence. All kinds of architectural styles that have ever existed can be found in Prague, including historical as well as modern architecture. Currency used is still Czech Koruna/ Crown (Kc or CZK), Euro is expected to be adopted around the year 2015. The Czech Republic has joined European Union in 2004.

Clothes to wear: As with many European cities, the weather can be highly changeable. At most times of the year, bring a warm jumper and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of a cold spell. Conversely, in the spring, summer and autumn, if the weather turns warm, shorts, skirts and dresses can be very welcome. Sunscreen and hats can also be important. Prague is a wonderful city to explore on foot and a comfortable pair of shoes is highly recommended, particularly if you are taking one of our walking tours. The city centre has many cobbled streets.

Public transport: Prague's public transportation network is cheap, efficient and well integrated. Public transport runs frequently day and night, and a single ticket permits travel on all trams, buses and the metro.

Internet access in Prague: Prague is a well connected city, with fast internet access widely available. Many hotels and apartments offer wired and/or wireless internet access (WiFi). There are also cafes and bars which offer free wireless internet access (WiFi) for the price of a drink.

Electricity, plugs: As in most of continental Europe, the electricity supply in Prague is 220v. Electrical sockets take standard European two-pin plugs. British, North American and other non-European tourists are advised to bring adaptors with them, which can usually be purchased at your departure airport. If you arrive in Prague without one, try any big hypermarket or electro shops.

Tipping in Prague: Tips are welcomed by staff working in the tourist industry in Prague, although generally tipping is relaxed and workers do not chase them. 5%-10% is appropriate. Tipp shows clients satisfaction with the service received.

When to visit: Prague is a lovely city to visit all year round. Tourist facilities - restaurants, hotels, shops, opera and theatre, and tourist attractions - are opened for visitors at all times. Places are heated in the winter, and many are air-conditioned in the summer.

Credit card acceptance in Prague: Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, international shops and more expensive restaurants. Many local shops and cheaper restaurants do not accept credit cards. If there is choice of paying in cash or by credit card, cash is always preferred.
